SCHOOL
OF RELIGION
Welcome to the
Mother Seton Parish School of Religion. We, the staff and
catechists, look forward to a challenging but rewarding
year, sharing our Catholic faith with the children of our
parish.
It is our hope that as the children come to know Christ,
they will begin to appreciate more fully the Catholic Faith
as well as develop an ongoing and lasting relationship with
Christ.
We maintain that parents/guardians are their children's
primary instructors of faith. We consider our role, working
with your children, a true privilege.
Our goal is to make Christ alive through an understanding of
our Catholic Faith. Scripture and Doctrine provide the basis
of our faith that is lived out through family participation
in sacrament, liturgy, and apostolic action.
The following objectives will enable all of us to make our
goal a reality:
| 1. |
The School of Religion personnel are supporters and
enablers to parents in their responsibility of being the
primary educators for their children. |
| |
|
| 2. |
The
School of Religion will strive to incorporate Gospel
values in the daily lives of our children. |
| |
|
| 3. |
The
School of Religion will assist parents in the sacramental
preparation of children. |
First
Reconciliation and First Eucharist: Children
are prepared by their parents and the Religious Education
staff for the reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation
and First Eucharist. Preparation for the sacraments is a
two-year program, beginning in first grade.
Confirmation:
Preparation for Confirmation is a two-year process beginning
in the 7th grade. Students are expected to complete
Community Ministry Projects, attend a retreat each of the
two years, while continuing their faith journey.
Introduction
to Sacraments Class ("ITS"): A make-up class
put together for children in Grades 3 - 5 (ITS A) and Grades
6 - 10 (ITS B) who, for whatever reason, have not as yet
received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and
Eucharist by the third grade.

*We are currently forming a new, permanent committee--the Religious Education Advisory Board (REAB). The board will collaborate with the Director of Religious Education and advise the pastor on all matters related to our religious education program, both for our English-speaking and Spanish-speaking students.
