LENT – CHRIST CRUCIFIED, A REFLECTION ON THE PASSION NARRATIVES

February 9, 16, 23 and March 2
Presenter: Father Mark Ervin
Time and Place: 7:30 – 9:30 p.m., St. Joseph conference room

Description: Each year during Holy Week the Church reads two different accounts of Jesus’ passion. On Palm (Passion) Sunday the account is from one of the first three Gospels (Matthew, Mark or Luke), while on Good Friday it is always from John. Thus the liturgy makes it possible to note how very different the Gospel passions are, each one offering a unique vantage point from which to see and understand the crucified Christ.

This Lent we’ll spend four evenings reflecting on each unique account of Jesus’ passion. It’s our hope to understand what each evangelist intended through his unique presentation instead of trying to glue them all together. Considering each in its own context offers a much richer way of understanding the demands of the cross in our own lives.

Cost: $10 per person, to cover the cost of the book.

Enrollment Deadline: January 25.

Please call or email the church office to enroll — (301) 924-3838 or MSPps@aol.com.
Classes are open to everyone, however space is limited. Payments will be accepted on the first night of class.
