Could you not, then, watch one hour with me?”

Matthew 26:40

Our Adoration Ministry is in great need of additional adorers to fill many vacancies, especially on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Please consider pledging one hour a week in the presence of Our Lord in Adoration.

We are concerned that without additional volunteers to support our daily ministry, we will need to limit Eucharistic Adoration at Mother Seton to only once a month, on First Fridays. Currently, Adoration times are on Mondays between 3 and 6 PM, Tuesdays through Fridays, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, and on First Fridays, from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM.

Please consider volunteering one hour per week. Your help is urgently needed for Adoration to continue with the current schedule. Contact Rachel or Sunil, 301-528-2961 or dynsunil@yahoo.com.

“Looking at the Eucharistic Lord for an hour transforms the heart in a mysterious way.”   –Archbishop Fulton Sheen

Join UsCalling all Moms, Dads, Babysitters and Nannies: Now that school is in full swing, perhaps you have one hour a week that you could spend with our Lord in daily Adoration. HE has an opening for you on Mondays from 3 PM to 6 PM, or any Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

Call Rachel or Sunil, 301-528-2961, to choose your hour.

PRAYER! Remember we have a Prayer Network. We hear often that requests have been granted.

The observance of the solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord has been transferred in our Archdiocese from May 1 to today, formerly the Seventh Sunday of Easter, to encourage all Catholics to observe this Holy Day of Obligation.

“The meaning of Christ’s Ascension,” writes Pope Benedict XVI, “expresses our belief that in Christ the humanity that we all share has entered into the inner life of God in a new and hitherto unheard Ascensionof way. It means that man has found an everlasting place in God.” It would be a mistake to interpret the Ascension as “the temporary absence of Christ from the world.” Rather, “we go to heaven to the extent that we go to Jesus Christ and enter into him.” Heaven is a person: “Jesus himself is what we call ‘heaven.’”

Today we celebrate that Jesus Christ, once crucified, has been raised from the dead and has ascended to the right hand of his Father. So that we will never be alone, Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to us. The Holy Spirit helps the followers of Jesus understand how to live the Gospel, and to lead us in the way of the truth. This is true today, and for all ages to come.

Today’s first reading is about the Ascension of Jesus and his final instructions to the eleven Apostles. The second reading is a reassurance that all that Jesus said and did was according to the will of the Father. In the Gospel, we learn that the mission once given to Jesus by the Father has now been entrusted to us, his disciples.

Today’s readings:
Acts 1:1-11; Ephesians 1:17-23; Matthew 28:16-20.

RETIREMENT OF A PARISH LEADER

Sadly, we must announce the retirement of our parish’s Director of Music and Liturgy, Mrs. Margaret Stack, effective May 11, 2008. Margaret has dedicated 15 years of her life to the people of Mother Seton Parish. When she arrived in 1993, our parish and its music ministry were much smaller. In the years since then, she has enriched our worship by helping us develop the many choirs we now enjoy. Please keep her in your prayers. She will be missed. [04/27/08]

Luke 24-1Saint Mary Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938) was a Polish nun, visionary, mystic, and now venerated as a saint canonized by Pope John Paul II Apr. 30, 2000. On Feb. 22, 1931, St. Faustina reported having seen Christ as the ‘King of Divine Mercy’, wearing a white garment. His right hand was raised in a sign of blessing and the other was touching the garment at His breast. From beneath the garment emanated two large rays, one red, the other white. In her spiritual diary, St. Faustina writes that Jesus told her: “The two rays denote Blood and Water. The pale ray stands for water which makes souls righteous. The red ray stands for the Blood which is the life of souls....These two rays issued forth from the very depths of My tender mercy when My agonized Heart was opened by a lance on the Cross. These rays shield souls from the wrath of My Father. Happy is the one who will dwell in their shelter, for the just hand of God shall not lay hold of him.”(299) Jesus instructed St. Faustina to, ‘Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature: Jesus, I trust in You. I desire that this image be venerated, first in your chapel, and (then) throughout the world.’(47) Polish artist Eugene Kazimirowski of Vilnius followed St. Faustina’s direction and painted the first painting for public display. Her mission was to remind the world of the truth of our faith revealed in Holy Scripture about God’s mercy to every human being; to entreat God’s mercy for the whole world, particularly for sinners with new forms of devotion to Divine Mercy, such as: veneration of the image of Divine Mercy, the feast of the Divine Mercy, and the chaplet of Divine Mercy and prayer at the Hour of Mercy (3 PM). And lastly, initiation of an apostolic movement of the Divine Mercy in which the faithful display an attitude of child-like trust in God, expressing itself in fulfilling His will, as well as mercy towards one’s neighbors.

2008 Archbishop Appeal Begins

This years’s theme for Archbishop Donald Wuerl’s Appeal is: The Lord is my Light and my Salvation. The programs, services, and ministries supported by this Appeal require financial support from all of us to continue to meet the challenges of our diverse and growing communities. As you reflect on this theme, consider God’s gift of salvation as well as all of the other gifts that He constantly gives us. Take a moment to recognize how God has blessed you, and then as a symbol of your gratitude for His gifts, make a generous pledge in support of the work of our Archdiocese. [01/20/08]

“Could you not, then, watch one hour with me?”
(Matthew 26:40)

Your help is urgently needed. Contact Rachel or Sunil, 301-528-2961 or dynsunil@yahoo.com. [02/03/08]
