A MESSAGE ABOUT GOLGOTHA:
Everyone knows that producing and staging a dramatic play is an expensive undertaking, even on a small scale such as ours. Yet, even before rehearsals began, all those involved in the project agreed that NO PARISH FUNDS WILL BE REQUESTED OR USED FOR THIS PRODUCTION. God is helping us to keep that promise through many generous donations and significant fundraising. We're very grateful to all those who have demonstrated their confidence in us. We hope and pray that the work we offer will be pleasing to the Lord, and of benefit to his beloved people. God bless you all!

2010 ARCHBISHOP'S APPEAL BEGINSMany of our parishioners have received a mailing from Archbishop Wuerl. He has asked that you make a pledge to the 2010 Archbishop's Appeal.
The Appeal not only funds the operations of the Archdiocese of Washington, it funds services that are a great help to the ministries of our parish.
This year, the theme of the Appeal is, "I Will Give You Thanks, O Lord." (Psalm 138:1)
Clearly, we have so many reasons to give thanks to God for all He has given us. Our contributions to our parish and our archdiocese multiply the thanks that we give to our God by enabling ministries and services that touch thousands of lives. Please prayerfully consider a generous pledge to the 2010 Archbishop's Appeal. Brochure (PDF) ; Tabloid (PDF)

After much prayer and discussion, we've decided to replace the seasonal Today's Missal and the annual Music Issue with a permanent hymnal (JourneySongs from Oregon Catholic Press). The new hymnal contains traditional, contemporary, and multicultural music along with readings for all three cycles of the church year. It includes the complete Order of the Mass; eight additional Mass settings; and supplemental service music. The parish will save in excess of $6,000 per year, and the hymnal will be a permanent, welcomed addition for the next 10 to 15 years. To help defray the costs of the hymnals, we're offering each parishioner the opportunity to donate a hymnal in memory of a deceased family member, or for a special intention, or, in thanksgiving for prayer answered. For $20, a color plate featuring Mother Seton Parish's stained glass window of the Holy Spirit, will be placed on the inside front cover of the hymnal memorializing your intention. Please drop by the Parish Office to donate a hymnal. They'll also be offered after all weekend Masses. [01/03/10]
PERMANENT DEACONS: We're blessed to have 5 men in the Permanent Diaconate ministerial formation program. Mauricio Rivas and Ted Dmuchowski are beginning their 2nd year of formation. Fidencio Gonzalez is beginning his 4th year of formation, and Steve Maselko and Al Opdenaker are beginning their final year of formation. With God's help, Steve and Al will be ordained deacons next spring. Please keep them in your prayers. We're proud of them! ~~Fr. Mark [09/20/09]
The Vatican is Offering a Plenary Indulgence for all faithful during the Year for Priests, which begins June 19th, and marks the 150th anniversary of the death of St. Jean Marie Vianney, also known as the Cure de Ars. A plenary indulgence can be obtained on the opening and closing days of the Year for Priests, and on the first Thursday of the month by attending Mass in an oratory or Church, and by offering prayers to “Jesus Christ, supreme and eternal Priest, for the priests of the Church, or perform any good work to sanctify and mold them to his heart.” Conditions for earning a plenary indulgence are to have gone to confession and prayed for the intentions of the Pope. The elderly, and the sick, may obtain the plenary indulgence if, with the intention of observing the usual three conditions as soon as they can, “on the days concerned, they pray for the sanctification of priests and offer their sickness and suffering to God through Mary, Queen of the Apostles.” [06/14/09]
ARIMATHEANS NEEDED!
Could you offer a few daytime hours to serve in this ministry? Could you be available with as little as 1 or 2 days notice? Would you consider serving in this ministry? The purpose of the Arimathean ministry is to be of assistance to parishioners when we have a funeral Mass at Mother Seton. We help with preparation of the funeral Mass; we are altar servers and Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion when needed. For more information or to volunteer, please call Kay Shannon, 301-515-4208, or Vince Drobny, 301-916-2431. [08/10/08]
SUNDAY, APRIL 19, is DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY. The Chaplet will be sung at 3 p.m., followed by Benediction. [04/12/09]Divine Mercy Sunday will be celebrated at St. Raphael’s in Rockville on Apr. 19, with Bishop Martin D. Holley. Confessions will be heard from 1 to 3 p.m., and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament offered from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Chanting of the Divine Mercy Chaplet will begin at 3 p.m., and Mass will follow at 3:30 p.m. Following the service, a 1st Class Relic of St. Faustina Kowalska will be available for veneration. For more information, call 301-762-2143. [04/12/09]
Saint Mary Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938) was a Polish nun, visionary, mystic, and now venerated as a saint canonized by Pope John Paul II Apr. 30, 2000. On Feb. 22, 1931, St. Faustina reported having seen Christ as the ‘King of Divine Mercy’, wearing a white garment. His right hand was raised in a sign of blessing and the other was touching the garment at His breast. From beneath the garment emanated two large rays, one red, the other white. In her spiritual diary, St. Faustina writes that Jesus told her: “The two rays denote Blood and Water. The pale ray stands for water which makes souls righteous. The red ray stands for the Blood which is the life of souls....These two rays issued forth from the very depths of My tender mercy when My agonized Heart was opened by a lance on the Cross. These rays shield souls from the wrath of My Father. Happy is the one who will dwell in their shelter, for the just hand of God shall not lay hold of him.”(299) Jesus instructed St. Faustina to, ‘Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature: Jesus, I trust in You. I desire that this image be venerated, first in your chapel, and (then) throughout the world.’(47) Polish artist Eugene Kazimirowski of Vilnius followed St. Faustina’s direction and painted the first painting for public display. Her mission was to remind the world of the truth of our faith revealed in Holy Scripture about God’s mercy to every human being; to entreat God’s mercy for the whole world, particularly for sinners with new forms of devotion to Divine Mercy, such as: veneration of the image of Divine Mercy, the feast of the Divine Mercy, and the chaplet of Divine Mercy and prayer at the Hour of Mercy (3 PM). And lastly, initiation of an apostolic movement of the Divine Mercy in which the faithful display an attitude of child-like trust in God, expressing itself in fulfilling His will, as well as mercy towards one’s neighbors. Could you not, then, watch one hour with me?”
Matthew 26:40Our Adoration Ministry is in great need of additional adorers to fill many vacancies, especially on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Please consider pledging one hour a week in the presence of Our Lord in Adoration.
We are concerned that without additional volunteers to support our daily ministry, we will need to limit Eucharistic Adoration at Mother Seton to only once a month, on First Fridays. Currently, Adoration times are on Mondays between 3 and 6 PM, Tuesdays through Fridays, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, and on First Fridays, from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM.
Please consider volunteering one hour per week. Your help is urgently needed for Adoration to continue with the current schedule. Greetings! I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Stacy Halbach, and I am the youth minister at Mother Seton. I’m writing you to ask for your help. The high school Youth Group program is growing, and our adult volunteer team that helps run the program is shrinking. I realize many of you may or may not have high school’ers involved in the youth group, but you don’t have to have a child in the program to help. My biggest need is for volunteers to come once a week (either Sunday nights or Wednesday nights), to help supervise mainly, and under certain circumstances, lead small groups. I will need an adult team, called the core team, to help with Sunday nights and a separate team to help with Wednesday nights. If you want to help with both nights, that’s not a problem. We’re just trying to make it easier on everyone to commit to only one night a week. Another way to help is by providing a meal. Every Sunday night, the youth group shares a meal together before our social activity. This is a great way to break the ice and build community. Many parents provide meals, but if this is a you’d like to help, we could always use more people for the meal provider rotation. Once or twice a year is what’s needed. Please prayerfully consider if God is calling you to help with the youth group program. If you’d like help, please email me: MSPyouth@aol.com. [03/29/09]
Each 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month, the youth group is sponsoring fellowship with free coffee and donuts in the Parish Center after every Mass from 7:30 a.m to 1:15 p.m. Monies collected cover the cost of the donuts and towards our MSP Youth Group Scholarship Fund to help our youth attend retreats and activities. [02/22/09]
Our New Youth Minister: We’re blessed to announce that Stacy Halbach has officially joined our pastoral team as of Aug. 1, 2008, as our new Director of Youth Ministry. Stacy, who recently moved with her husband to our area from Oklahoma, was the former youth minister at St. Bernard’s Parish in Tulsa. She is filled with faith, joy, and energy, is eager to meet our teens, and to continue the wonderful things our youth are already doing. Please keep her in your prayers. [08/03/08]MSP Youth Group is for grades 9 to 12. For more details on future events, please visit our website: www.freewebs.com/mspyouth.

To Members of Mother Seton Parish,
This is to say thank you for the continuous support that was extended to us during both Thanksgiving and Christmas. We acknowledge you kind gift cards for our Thanksgiving dinner. It made a real difference at the time when we were struggling financially. We certainly appreciated the gift cards that were given to us during the Holidays. With that, I was able to have small presents for the children, and purchased food for the occasion.
We pray that the Mother Seton Parish will continue to bless and bring joy to families here in Germantown.
I am forever grateful. Thank you.

BLESSINGS COME IN MANY SIZES-Our Church organ is an antique–it’s nearly 40 years old. Unfortunately, it’s beyond its useful life and we’re faced with the problem of replacing it. Purchasing a new, or quality used instrument would cost us at least $50,000. In addition, two of the 40-year-old speakers (there are 4), also need to be replaced–an additional $10,000.
We’ve prayed about what to do, as we cannot afford to replace this equipment at this time. Thankfully, through the grace of God, one of our parishioners is donating a slightly used instrument. We’ll pay for transportation and installation costs, about $2,000-$3,000, thankfully, about half of that will be paid through private donations. We’re still in need of replacement speakers, but we’ll hold off on that for a while until either our financial condition is better or, the equipment is simply unusable. Please join me in praying for the parishioner who donated our new organ!
Deo Gratias! ~~Fr. Mark [05/10/09]

The following is the prayer to implore the intercession of Servant of God John Paul the Great.
"O Blessed Trinity. We thank You for having graced the Church with Pope John Paul II and for allowing the tenderness of your Fatherly care, the glory of the cross of Christ, and the splendor of the Holy Spirit, to shine through him. Trusting fully in Your infinite mercy and in the maternal intercession of Mary, he has given us a living image of Jesus the Good Shepherd, and has shown us that holiness is the necessary measure of ordinary Christian life and is the way of achieving eternal communion with you. Grant us, by his intercession, and according to Your will, the graces we implore, hoping that he will soon be numbered among your saints. Amen." [07/31/05][For more: see BEATIFICATION of JOHN PAUL: The opening session for the diocesan investigation into the life, virtues and saintliness of Servant of God, John Paul II, was held June 28, 2005, at the Basilica of St. John Lateran and presided over by Cardinal Ruini. The diocesan tribunal of Rome is responsible for the first phase of the process as they analyze and examine the life and writings of the Servant of God and interview witnesses. If a positive verdict is forthcoming, the case will pass to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints where, following a fresh examination of the material, extraordinary favors that may be miracles will be studied with the help of doctors and experts. Following the certification of a miracle, Pope Benedict XVI could order beatification of Pope John Paul the Great. The official Internet site for the cause of beatification of John Paul the Great is: www.JohnPaulIIBeatification.org. The postulator of the cause is Msgr. Slawomir Oder. The following is the prayer to implore the intercession of Servant of God John Paul the Great. [07/10/05]

Monthly Mortgage Collection - How Are We Doing?
![]()
Over the past 3 and a half years, the monthly second collection for the mortgage payment covered, on average, only 75% of the actual payment amount.
During Lent, we ask all parishioners to reevaluate their level of giving for the monthly second collection for the mortgage payment and make every effort to increase their level of giving.
Where possible, we ask every family to contribute a minimum of $10 per month to the monthly second collection for the mortgage payment. We need everyone’s participation in this effort.
Thank you for your continued kind stewardship and generosity towards our wonderful Mother Seton parish.
